Start off on the right foot. To make an impression at the entrance, keep a modern doormat outside. Lock out dirt, dust and mud with a coir one—its textured surface makes it easy to scrape off shoes and stop messes at the door. To protect your floors by the back door, pop another one on the patio, too. Another option? A utility mat that's easy to hose off. Stripes, patterns and prints look good as new after a quick clean. If you value versatility, consider an indoor-outdoor mat instead. Equally at home on the porch or in the mudroom, it complements other decor as well. If you set it up in the sunshine out back, prop a few throw pillows on your outdoor furniture in similar shades. Indoors, hang wall art above the entryway bench that ties the look together.
